Challenge: Can you make the perfect hard boiled egg? – It varies by culture, but in America a boiled egg typically refers to a hard boiled egg, which takes about ten minutes of cooking. Soft boiled can be anywhere from four to eight minutes, with most Americans leaning toward the seven to eight minute mark for a soft boiled egg.

Since they are great to make a ahead for a grab and go breakfast or snack, we wanted to talk about what makes a perfect hard boiled egg. We found out that Michael and I make them differently.

Also, we discussed why packaged hard boiled eggs seem totally different from those made at home.

About Elizabeth Dougherty

Elizabeth Dougherty has been cooking and writing about food intensively for more than ten years. She is the fourth generation of chefs and gourmet grocers in her family with her mother, Francesca Esposito and grandmother, Carmella being major influences in her early cooking years. As a teenager, her family sent her to Europe where she became focused on French and Italian cuisine.
