VIDEO: Serio Cooks! The Classic James Beard Inspired Burger

We always say “make it yourself, so you know what’s in it and who made it!”    After a long weekend, we just wanted a couple of fresh hamburger/cheeseburgers so we took our own advice and made it ourselves.  The best part of all, when the burgers are done you can dress them anyway you like… it’s the American way! The Classic James Beard Inspired Burger

This recipe was inspired by “James Beard’s Favorite Hamburger” and after you try it, you’ll see why we love it too.

Ingredients
1 lb of freshly ground chuck
1 tsp of sea salt
2 TB GRATED sweet onion (not buzzed or minced)
1 TB heavy cream
(1 TB olive oil plus 1 TB butter if using a skillet)
Optional…lettuce, tomato, cheese
2-4 Kaiser rolls
Method
Let beef sit at room temperature for about 10 – 15 minutes. (This will ensure more even cooking.) Combine beef with sea salt, grated onion and heavy cream. Form into 2 half pound patties or 4 quarter pound patties. Heat a skillet or grill to medium high heat. If using a skillet, add the olive oil and butter. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side for half-pounders and 3-4 minutes for quarter-pounders.  Add a slice of your favorite cheese, if desired, in the last couple of minutes of cooking. Lightly toast the Kaiser rolls on the outside edges of the grill for the last couple of minutes of cooking. Assemble with lettuce, tomato and any other additions. Enjoy The Classic James Beard Inspired Burger with our homemade buns.
