The Vinoy paints a new culinary canvas

The buzz in St. Petersburg is building in anticipation of the opening of the new Dali museum. At the Renaissance Vinoy, Chef Mark Heimann is paying homage with a “Salute to the Arts” menu for lunch and dinner.

You’ve probably heard about the $19.25 Classic Menu offered from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm every day at the Vinoy. This price reflects the year the Vinoy Hotel opened its doors to the public. Through April, 2011 the Classic Menu will be composed of dishes inspired by Dale Chihuly and Salvador Dali. In addition, the same menu will be offered from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm for lunch for $16.25.

The three course meal includes one appetizer, one main course and one dessert. New selections include a carrot-ginger bisque, a free-range chicken breast over crawfish mac -n- cheese, a short rib over ravioli with a sherry cream sauce and a scallop served with red wine risotto.

Marchand’s culinary team toured downtown St. Petersburg’s museums and developed creative dishes after previewing the new Dali Museum and the Chihuly Collection. The dessert choices on the new menu are decadent reflections of the genres Dali and Chihuly created. A liquid center caramel mocha mousse tower with creme anglaise echoes the surreal quality Dali lends to his work while the blood orange cheesecake with kumquat compote and pulled sugar showcases the range of color Chilhuly brings to many of his glass works of art.

New wine selections to pair with these offerings include Ergo Rioja and Albarino from Spain’s Rias Baixas Region. These wines from Martin Codex Wines of Spain are a tribute to Salvador Dali’s Spanish heritage. Dale Chilhuly’s home in Washington State will be honored with Snoqualmie Columbia Valley Chardonnay and Syrah.

While dining at the Vinoy, visitors can take advantage of the history tour offered at the hotel conducted by a historian on property. The Renaissance Vinoy is also celebrating it’s 86th anniversary with special rates on hotel rooms and resort stays. The Vinoy is a Marriott property, allowing Marriott Rewards Members to receive points for their stays and other additional benefits.

Amenities offered include an 18-hole golf course, two swimming pools, full-service health club, day spa, several restaurants and lounges with room service, and a 12-court tennis complex.

The Vinoy is located at 501 Fifth Avenue NE, St. Petersburg, FL on the waterfront area of Tampa Bay known as the Vinoy Basin. Reservations for dining and rooms can be obtained by calling 727-894-1000.
